Kingfisher Child Welfare Policy

Children have a lot to gain from involvement in sport.  Like other sports swimming provides an opportunity to learn new skills, gain confidence and of course have fun.  The full potential of these benefits can only be gained with a positive approach to the child’s involvement.  The focus should be on the needs of the child rather than on competition or success.  A child centred approach to swimming and all children’s activities will result in continued participation, a positive public image of sport and long term benefits of the health and well being of our future adult population.

Kingfisher has a duty of care to safeguard all children involved in swimming and sport.  All children have a right to protection and the needs of disabled children and others who may be particularly vulnerable must be taken into account.  Kingfisher will ensure the welfare and safety of all children involved in swimming and other activities through the promotion of and adherence to the Good Practice and Child Protection guidelines adopted by Swim Ireland and Active Ireland

A child is defined as under 18 buy the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child

All sporting organisations which make provision for children and young people must ensure that

The welfare of the child is paramount

All children whatever the age, culture, disability, gender, language, racial origin, religious beliefs and or sexual identity have the right to be involved in sport.

Kingfisher is fully committed to safeguarding the well being of its users.  Every visitor to the centre should at all time show respect and understanding for their rights, safety and welfare.

They should conduct themselves in a way that reflects Kingfishers principles and guidelines in our Good Practice and Child Protection Policy.
